ScotRail runs the 398 Station Link Bus Service that travels a circular route between Glasgow’s two mainline railway stations (Glasgow Central and Queen Street) and the Buchanan Bus Station. It is free to travellers with a valid rail ticket to make their transfers.

With increasing visitor numbers to Glasgow's main terminals, ScotRail sought a means for improving the usefulness of the Station Link service for passengers.

The solution required onboard Audio and Visual announcements to ensure that all passengers could access next stop and connecting journey information to help improve the accessibility of local public transport information. This information was of key importance to a range of members of the public and visitors to the area including those with visual impairment or those with hearing problems.

Due to the nature of the Glasgow city landscape, significant testing of GPS and geo-fencing technologies was required to achieve best performance for the announcements system.

Several versions of the product design were piloted before arriving at the final version of the display and audio announcement set-up to best display both the real-time bus services and real-time rail services data to passengers.
